Life In 19x19 :: How to record games on mobile with android

Title says it all, i'm going to egc in a couple of days and i'd like to record my games with my mobile (i believe even if i was used to recording on a kifu i'd take a lot of time and distract me from the game).

Sorry for bringing back this "old" thread. I've been wondering about this issue too. During my last tournament I started recording the first 3 games and it wasn't till the 4th that I relied on my opponent to record the game. Then I realised recording my game lowered my focus on the game severely.
Therefore, my question: has anyone tried any other alternatives to record the game?
1.- A camera with a small tripod next to the table
2.- Cell phone on a small tripod next to the board
3.- Go Pro helmet (this would be awesome :clap:

)

Other stuff such as google glass should be not allowed during the game...

Any other suggestions?

In the NGA camp I used a scanning app to take pictures of the board every ~20 moves or so. Since the span wasn't consistent the result was good in easy games and horrible for a very fighting game. For the tournament I did proper recording. Somehow changing my reading from board to iPad helps (also works as misdirection: you can read on the left while looking at the right, pure Sun Tzu style

Well, as far as I know, it includes a small screen which only the user has access to. The player may stream the game to a stronger player elsewhere (or even a remote server with some engine in it) and a move suggested back into his screen. Though none of the smart devices are allowed, we tend to use phones and tablets since both players can check the screen if the opponent is suspicious... We wouldn't be able to do so on a google glass...

build goban with sensorplate and a Arduino or Raspberry Pi have started to comeup in my head as sugestions how to keep track of my games as a unlogical newbie that still makes to many moves that have no benefit.

if you are to both play and record the game at the same time, i think the best option still is to use pen and paper.

I like using pen and paper, but I can't really say that its the best.
Electronic recording apps make it so much easier, and far less distracting, not having to remember move numbers and such.

I only use paper mostly because I can't afford the apps/devices.

There are a lot of options, have a look at the Google play store. Personally, I like using gobandroid.

I tried recording my games on a mobile device once a few years ago; it was still a distraction and severely reduced the level of my play. If you're putting a significant amount of time, money, or effort into going to the EGC, I highly recommend you try recording games before the EGC, so you know how much of an effect it will have on you.

In theory it can only record, not like it can analyse the game or anythhing...

But it was the 4th which suffered my rage while I discovered I could improve my focus

We wouldn't be able to do so on a google glass... That's right, although I think Google Glass can't record and play at the same time, much less on a relatively long game (battery issues.) I guess at some point (i.e. when engines are fast and reliable at the 4-7d level) electronic devices will be banned (like it happens in chess) and we'd have to rely on memory and kifu paper

I don't think an electronic Go board is a daft idea though but would probably need the tournament organisers to adopt it. I've never played in a Chess tournament but all the ones I've seen footage from seem to have adopted DGT electronic chess boards. http://www.chesshouse.com/dgt_electronic_chess_boards_s/361.htm it'd be good for live broadcast too.

I have for a while consider to make an app that takes photos at a regular interval (maybe two a second), and translate them to a sgf file. Easy if you have good pictures, but I would like to work from a low camera angle and be able to handle hands blocking part of the board. Perfectly possible, but it takes a lot of work to trim it in and I have been hoping some one else would do it... .

if you are to both play and record the game at the same time, i think the best option still is to use pen and paper. kifu paper is available online, very helpful. after finishing the game, make a .sgf file from the kifu.

Of course, this doesn't help when your opponent fails to punch their clock and you punch yours without noticing.
