In "Honinbo Tournament: The early years", John Fairbairn mentions that... Quote: Segoe clearly had to be left to grieve, and the players faced a major challenge just to get home, chich I have described elsewhere. Does anyone have a pointer to that "elsewhere"? Thank you. |

I wrote about that in the GoGoD Encyclopaedia, and in The Go Companion, and also in a booklet published by the Imperial War Museum in London. I will be adding even more details, from Segoe's perspective, when I get round to finishing The Life & Times of Honinbo Segoe, which is making good progress at present. |

I read that bit in Early Honinbo Tournament also and I highly recommend the article in "Go in wartime Japan" in the GoGoD encyclopedia. I think it's my favorite article I've read so far. I've been reading the Encyclopedia here and there, jumping around, and keeping a list of favorites: https://lifein19x19.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=18595 I like the article on the prisoners playing Go too and it also involves Segoe. From the main Encyclopedia page click "History" at the top or "History and Timelines" in the middle and look under Japan. |
