Post subject:  Family Go league?

I had just came up with an idea. It might be a lot more fun for my family to play Go, if there was a little competition involved.

My idea was to make a small Go league just in my family. The only problem, is I don't know exactly how leagues work. I know that you rank up and down based on your wins and losses. Is there any reference on how to set a league up?

I would also like to make a Go club and have a couple of people who are interested, and maybe I could use this league idea in the club too.

thanks in advance, for the help.

First of all a question: how big is your family?

Me, my dad, my mom, 2 sisters, and a brother.

So, 6 people.

One easy idea might be a simple ladder: everyone is randomly assigned a space, then whenever two people play, if the lower one beats the higher one, they swap places. The main problem is you might need some way to force the people at the top to play the people under them.

Yeah, I have to agree that a ladder is more realistic than a full blown ranking system with that number of people. But I have to say, I'm not sure if this strategy will really work. I think you have to find a way to get them to want to play first. Does anyone in your family have interests or personality traits that you could use to interest them? Have you tried anything like that already?

Perhaps simplify the ASR rules? 2 points for a win, 1 for a loss? Even if it's not robust or balanced in a simplified form, it might be enough for a fun, informal family thing.

Who in your family besides yourself already play go?

I have played everyone in my family at Go. My brother and sister would probably be the best players though (besides me).
