Hi,

I've been pausing since August last year and was on my way to 6k (maybe I was it even for a short time), but have restarted recently. The first few games are just "aaaargh" and I'm feeling it's just getting worse ;-)

Lost against a 6k with 11.5, against a 7k with 11.5, against a 10k with 29.5, ... .

I'm pretty sure this is more or less normal in the "restart the go mind again" phase, but nevertheless, quite frustrating.

So, this post is for all recently restarting go players to simply post their "aaaargh" -- definitely feels good to relieve the anger.

Bye,
Michael

PS: It's definitly also a "hey, my rank was 6k, what's going on?" thing, although I know that my current play does not justify this at all -- I should relief myself from the rank haste, which is quite difficult :)

I stopped completely from mid December until mid March (except two aweful games in February) and I feel like playing a lot better ^^ In December I was on my way back to 4k, now I'm steadily moving to 2k.

So, it's more "Yarrrrrrrrrr!" than "Arrrrrrrrgh!" : D

Inspiring -- so I should take another pause :D

After a half year break it took me a few games to get back (including losing to a 9 kyu), before I settled back to my previous 3 kyu. I still didn't feel comfortable playing for a few weeks. It's funny though-- once in while I'll still come across a joseki or life and death pattern that I totally blank on, and which I used to know.

Arrgghh!

Minor update: although I'm still loosing to 10k while experimenting (my excuse for being too lazy to read things out sometimes), I played a game against a 2k yesterday in the ASR League and only lost by 14.5 :-)

I haven't actually sat down and played Go in quite a while, a month or two by now, and I decided to play a few games at FlyOrDie.

19x19, 6.5 point komi.

I lost two games straight to some 1 kyu after misreading(and playing too fast).

I won a game, even after messing up pretty badly, just because I played bigger moves and had a better endgame.

Then I lost again, after misreading, yet again.

Finally, I won again, after dying big, just because of endgame shenanigans.

He stopped accepting rematches at that point, and I was pretty disappointed with myself, so I decided to challenge the strongest person on the server, and win or lose, just stop for the night. People told me that he was a 4d, so I prepared for a hard game that I would probably lose.

Somehow, I forced res in the middle game after outfighting him.

What the hell was I doing in that first series?

FlyOrDie has 19x19 now? They used to only have 15x15.

Its been a while since I played there, but I like it.

Me too, I'm really enjoying it for casual relaxing games. The smaller board is actually nice for me :)

Although, I'm something like 14-0 since returning, it seems there are a lot of different abilities at each level, but what level equates to low dan ranks?
