So on the 17th of November the venue for the World Mind Sports Games is going to be announced. Where do you think it will be? The link came from a google news article. It is in Spanish about upcoming poker events and it quotes about WMSG: "De ser así serían en la capital de Gales; para 2016 que se celebrarán en Brasil." Although it does seem to be speculative as if the event will happen it states the capital of Wales as the venue if it does happen. The second article would seem to suggest that there will be an event. Then looking at a third source of the IFP website there appears to be a major event planned in London starting on the 17th November. This would seem to confirm that the WMSG will have its funding secured by poker. UK tax laws make UK attractive to poker pros. Although, their choice of dates and venue does seem slightly surprising. The dates actually overlap the Olympic games but I suppose that they got a good offer. At the moment I am wondering what the qualification route is likely to be. I imagine to play go for the UK 5 or 6 dan would be enough. |

I would imagine that there was a substantial funding drop for this WMSG, so I wouldn't be completely surprised if a UK team wasn't eligible (strong enough) to play  tetron wrote: The link came from a google news article.

If you see the date of that announcement, it is from 2010. In 2011 IGF meeting in WAGC, the directives gave an update about WMSG saying that the sponsors part was the main problem in WMSG at Manchester. Everything points to NOT being Manchester // UPDATE: there's a rumor... that may be we end eating Paella and screaming "OLÉ" |

Most of the companies have UK links and Spain wasn't even on the cards add this to the € ... Most of the networks were founded in the UK and still has disproportionate clout.

If it is postponed, I'd start to get slightly concerned that a company was out there gathering capital on our behalf, without giving any insight into what it was going to do with it. |
