How would be for you the perfect go server, with the following limitation: it can only have virtues or features existing in a currently working go server.

For me it would be:
- KGS for the chatting, the kibitz, the friendliness. In general, the social aspect.
- Tygem for the possibility to observe high level crazy games at any moment in the day.
- Tygem for the betting minigame. Yes, it's silly, but I find it funny and I think it would be crazy fun to have it on a server with actual people interaction like KGS.
- Kaya for the install-free browser architecture.
- Kaya for the pretty graphics.
- Everyone but Tygem for the one server for all.
- KGS for the Android app.

[Edit: Actually, I can play DGS on DGS and it's fine as it is. There would be little point for another server to implement correspondence playing.]

Do you know how to anticipate broadcast games on Kaya?

Organised tournaments, conditional moves, an interface that isn't butt ugly?

Tygem or Wbaduk for the abundance of strong players.
KGS or Kaya for working smoothly on Linux.
Kaya for running in a browser, making it easy to customize.
Kaya for the good user interface and just looking good in general.
KGS or Kaya's social atmosphere.

Combine that with any server where it's possible to get a game with at least 20 minutes main time (and preferably 30), such as KGS.

I want KGS (cgoban-h style options) as a base, wbaduk's pro games broadcast, and Tygem's numbers.

Oh yeah, add in wbaduk Japan client's byoyomi to make me happy too.

KGS without tolerance for escapers and without that tilde thingy.

KGS without BigDoug. ;-)

The perfect Go server for me is something that looks and functions like a gaming platform (e.g., Bnet) but with the player base of Tygem.

I should add open source to the list of things to make it perfect for me. :)

Good idea. One other thing I'd like to add is voice countdown during byo-yomi. That's the one feature I miss the most about Cgoban-h. I think Wbaduk and Tygem also have it, but it's been a little while since I last played at either one.

I use both wbaduk and Tygem Japanese clients.

wbaduk on 30 second byoyomi, gives vocal warnings at 10 seconds, 20 seconds, and then a countup starting from ten seconds. It has three different pro voice selections, Yoshihara Yukari, Mannami Kana, or Nakajima Mieko.

tygem gives you the ten second female voice countup with the countup clock replacing your mouse cursor to get even more attention.

I don't know what that is. But it doesn't sound like "connect at any moment and watch 9ds playing".

I don't watch, nor play, organized tournaments. I have no use for conditional moves. I quite like DGS interface but I play it mostly on my phone so as long as it has good contrast, I wouldn't care. I care more for the interface of the servers I play on my desktop.

btw, if I cared about the beauty of the interface, OGS has one of the ugliest designs I've seen since since the times of the explosion of animated gifs on personal homepages. The black and white over shades of blue makes my eyes bleed.

(I just checked that it was still as ugly as last time I saw it and in the first link I clicked I saw you're the #1 there so I guess you like it) :)

Anyway, I'm sure I could be playing in either one. I made both accounts the same day and I just gravitated towards DGS because I liked the android client and because I got more games faster. After one or two weeks I decided I wouldn't want to keep both apps on the phone so I left OGS.

I suppose you have never tried to select one of the many dozens of alternative sets of boards and stones.

I have no problem with the board and stones. It's the page I find ugly.

But, really, for correspondence play I only need:
- People from various ranks willing to play with me with and without handicap.
- A good Android client.

DGS gave me that and I didn't keep looking. I'm sure I could switch to OGS and I'd only lose some of the friends I made in DGS.

It's on the desktop go servers, where I watch several games, comment live, laugh with the kibitz, etc. where I still haven't found a combination that I like.
I watch KGS games with kibitz and social interaction but without 9ds. I watch games in tygem with an awful client, no kibitz but strong players playing "slow" games.

As an example of not having a server with everything, I have the android KGS client but to watch a tygem game in the tablet or the phone I have to connect them to my desktop through VNC and run the client there.

The whole site can be skinned. I don't have a trace of blue anywhere on OGS (apart from the logo on the top left).

Agreed that the default blue is rather unpleasant (although obviously at least one person likes it).

The android app is excellent, btw. And conditional moves are a MASSIVE time-saver in a correspondence game.

You can always check the Kaya countdown to see when the next server event happens. The last broadcast had more than 12 hour anticipation.

Specially on this BadukTV trial phase, we dont hav ea set schedule as Scribes are volunteers that just feel for it. We will pick a farther away broadcast and make a big announcement on it soon.

It has one big flaw for me that I have not got a response from the author about. I want notifications, but I do not want them to make a sound from my phone. anDGS does that fairly trivially. Can OGS android client do that?

What Bnet looks/functions do you like better than Go servers?

What Bnet looks/functions do you like better than Go servers?

The ranking system, achievements (something I discussed about a while ago), convenience of playing an AI, Arcade Mode <-> Go variations, available stats.

What about the ranking system do you prefer?
