Guys, checking players of the XXth century, that thing I mentioned about people born around the 30s, I found a game between Kikuchi Yasuro (a very good amateur) and... Go Seigen? Could anyone confirm? The website is here and the game is... Take care.

菊池康郎 used to be the strongest amateur in Japan. He used to win Amateur Maijin or Honinbo every year. And winner of this tournament were allowed to play a game with one of top professional. |

Still, what I found quirky was Go Seigen's name in there. I was looking for second line players and... Well, seeing the brief of a kifu read Go Seigen vs so-so Ama... kinda raises a flag. Or two. Do you happen to know if Go Seigen joined in those games with Ama? Not being part of the Kiin makes me wonder. Take care. |

The term "professional" does not imply greater strength than any amateur. In CJK go countries there are many cases of amateurs defeating pros in serious games. Kikuchi is well known as being at least professional mid-dan level strength. In fact he has trained professionals, e.g. Yamashita Keigo, who has won numerous titles in Japan. |
