And seems to work for me, for both links (www and sans-www).

You're using GoDaddy for web hosting, right? The instructions I gave in the first post should work, according to their documentation:
http://help.godaddy.com/article/899

(You'll want to put the .htaccess file in the same place as your index.php for your welcome page.)
