When you mark a forum read, you're sent to a notification page, then redirected to the forum you marked read after a few seconds. I'm not sure that this is ideal.

1) You can now mark Malkovich games as read from anywhere on the boards, and many users may want to do this--they're polarizing. But it's weird that you're then directed to the Malkovich games. In that case, you're not redirected to the forum you were just viewing, but a different forum. Either the description or the behavior should be changed (I vote behavior).

2) In general, I think it would make more sense to redirect you to the board index if you're going to be redirected. After all, you've just marked a forum read--I would think you would probably not want to remain there.

3) I suspect the ideal is to have the notification appear in place, but that might require more extensive changes to the code.

but if you're in the Off Topic forums and mark it all read, then it redirects you back to the same Off Topic forum (as one might expect)

I think its just that the "new" additional feature to mark Malkovich forums read from anywhere is a bit of an odd duck, and it sorta makes sense that it redirects you back to there (even if that's not where you were)

I think the whole redirection thing is just silly and unnecessary anyway (there have been previous threads on the subject), and now I've gotten in the habit of just clicking the Board Index link and not waiting for the redirect.

Yes. To be more clear:

* In an ideal setup, there would be no redirection.
* If there is redirection, I think the board index is best.
* The Malkovich redirection is an outlier and is worse behavior than the others.

And sorry to duplicate old suggestion threads. I scanned for anything that looked related, but it must be old.
