I've had "Zenith Go 6" since August. I wonder if they updated something else and didn't update the name.

This was the one from June release.

edit...

Japanese site still is 6/3, so no change. Just the addition of an English site happened today.

Uhm x__x

Well, I had read a post about it today in the German DGoB forum where Ingo wrote that he’d received a mail from Hideki Kato, saying that it was released today, and the first linked page also says “Release:October 26 , 2016” [sic!] …

Is it perhaps about the download version then? Did you purchase a boxed version perhaps, back in August?

<edit>
And English version really? I mean … completely in English?

No.
The June release is the original Japanese version.

Also available at amazon.co.jp, with remark "Release Date: June 3, 2016"

+ + + + + + + +

There was also an English version of Zen 4, but non of Zen 5.

Yes, I've been running the software in English since August. This publication date is the web page which is still interesting.

:-? contradicting messages confuse me even more than I already am :-D

What I had heard abt the older version was that, while the most important functions/infos were available in EN, it was not completely translated, i.e. some windows or panels allegedly still were in Japanese <shrug>

Anyway, I asked Ingo to inquire with Hideki Kato, hopefully he will do …

I am not able to make the purchase. (Cant read Japanese, I managed to log in, but I am not able to process any of the purchase options, a english user interface is really needed)

Are there any other options to buy Zenith 6 English?

Is Zenith Go 6 the same as Deep Zen Go that will play Cho Chikun? If not, do both use deep learning?

Zenith Go 6 only support CPU while DeepZenGo will use both CPU and GPU, also DeepZenGo has been trained for a longer time, it's a newer version.

(I was able to buy Zenith Go 6 with the paypal option.)

No, it is not the same engine version

Zenith Go 6 is using the Zen Version 11.4 Engine.

So, is this Zen bot strength depends on how strong your computer is? Or its strength will be the same on all computer, just move/time is different depended on your CPU & GPU?

I have Alienware X51 with Intel Core i7-4790 3.60 GHz Quad-core Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz) + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 Graphics with 4GB DDR3. How can I optimize the performance on my computer? I play with it at 7 dan and it takes about ~15-20 sec/move. But I'm not sure if it's strength are at 7dan lvl.

GPU doesn't matter for the commercial version. I suppose, the dan-levels have been calibrated by the number of playouts, so Zen should have the same strenght on every PC.

On a fast computer like yours, the program plays stronger if you select "Specify Time" in the "New Game" dialog box. Give the bot 120 sec/move, and it should play strong enough for every amateur player. ;-)

Lol. How come do specific time will make it stronger?

Only if you give more time to Zen than the time Zen need to think in rank based mode, forcing Zen to simulated more than it need, making it stronger. If you give less time to Zen then Zen is weaker.

You are being told that there are two (different) ways to specify.

a) # of playouts ----- in which case the amount of time required for each move will depend on the hardware. This doesn't require the program to actually test what hardware it is running on, just takes as long as it takes. Increasing the number of playouts improves the play.

b) amount of time per move --- in which case, at the start, the program tests the hardware performance and decides how many playouts it can use to fit the time control selected. So on any given harware, increasing the time improves the play.

Note that this isn't linear. Below some number of playouts the program would be weak, erratic. And as the number of playouts increases, the amount of inporovement decreases (diminishing returns).

Let's note a few things:
a) The suggested 120 seconds per move is like OLD TIME speeds with games spread over a couple days.
b) The reason that the computer programs do better (than humans) at fast speeds isn't precisely the speed. AFAIK all the programs available lack a feature humans use --- decide that the position NOW is at a critical junction and use some reserved time to think. Or make a few real quick moves (wastes ko threats) to build up that reserve. It's an advanced "time management" problem. The point is, 10 second per move go is not quite the same as 360 moves in an hour even though the averae time per move is the same.

I totally see your point. It makes sense now.
When I put it at 7 dan, it takes less than 30 sec for a move.
But when I specify time at 30 sec, sometimes it used all 30 sec and most of the time it used more than 20 sec to play one move. And I do notice the difference in strength.

However, I won't say the program is as strong as 7d on KGS.

Do you give yourself the same time to play as the bot?

The 7d is from 20 cores cpu playing 15sec/move games. Most AI tend to win more in blitz.

No...I tend to play faster than the bot. Is this crucial to the bot strength?
