Post subject:  ElyGo - a complete Android app

I'm the author of a popular android Go app, ElyGo.
My goal is to provide a complete app with many features : play (against a bot or on IGS), solve problems, review and study pro games, ...

A free version is available here : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lrstudios.games.ego.lite.

Currently, the full version has the following features :

- 500+ built-in Tsumego problems with answers as well as bad variations
- Play against a bot (GnuGo 3.8)
- Play and observe games online on IGS
- An SGF Editor to review and edit games
- A challenge mode where you have to solve a set of problems in a limited time
- Import your own tsumego problems
- Loads Kogo's Joseki Dictionary
- A database of 20,000 Pro games
- Import your own game database
- Now optimized for both phones and tablets

The complete list is available on Google Play.

Feel free to discuss about it !

First I'd like to say thanks for making another Go app for the market - I think it's brilliant that people with more technical and artistic skill than I have see this as a worthwhile investment of their time.

I think your app looks really nice. It would be good to have a free version with reduced capabilities as the price is quite high though you get more than just one function app. Pattern recognition on a pro game database would be great to have on my Android tablet (it would be nice to be able to import my copy of GGOD pro game database) I really hope that part gets done and a bit more polish on the sgf editor.

Would you consider selling the apk direct? I have a Kindle Fire and cannot access Google Play.

Thanks CnP. You're right, I completely forgot the free version. I will create it in the next days, with sample tsumegos and other limited features.

I think my priorities will be implementing the game database feature (with the possibility to import your own games) and improving the layout on large screens because I just realized many people here have a tablet.

Trebuchet : I can but how will you get app updates without Google Play?

What do you mean? I'd get updates the same way.

Mike Dobbins posts the latest versions of his AnDGS apk on his website for direct download.

Yes but AnDGS is free, I cannot upload a paid app to a public website like a free app.

Yep. Therein lies the rub. I'd happily pay for several paid go apps I just can't access.

Could you submit it to Amazon to put in their app store?

I'm surprised you can use GnuGo in a closed source, commercial app. Or does it need to be downloaded separately?

No, but I will release a free version of the app tomorrow with GnuGo (without limitations) as well as the source code used to compile it on Android.

Trebuchet, I don't know much about the Amazon appstore, I will try and tell you.

I uploaded the app on the Amazon market.

Note that it may take some time before it appears in the search results.

The solution looks not available for the tsumegos. Bug or feature? :-D

Do you mean nothing happens when you click on the button?

Had a quick look at the free app, very impressed so far. Love the home screen, with beautiful blue icons. The board looks fantastic and plays very smoothly. The tsumegos seem to work perfectly. I tried a game against gnugo which also worked very well. Only minor complaint is that the move precision is an issue, I had a misclick in the game. Some other apps have a sort of zooming feature when you actually play or some similar anti-misclick capability. Overall, tho, I'm incredibly impressed.

Under settings you can click "requires validation" which should do the trick, but it doesn't appear to be working right now.

Also, great about the pro game database support - I haven't had time to import the GOGOD database yet though.

I didn't notice the green point. My mistake.

I've downloaded the free version, and it seems pretty good. I'll probably buy the full version when I've had some time to tinker with this one more.

JC told me about this application and I want to use it, but I can't find it with Google Market.

I will publish an update tomorrow, which will include a new pattern search feature, zoom on double-tap (other ways to zoom will be added later), and minor graphical improvements.

Note that the pattern search is very fast, it needs less than 1 sec to do a search within 10,000 games. However, the first search may take some time (10 sec for the built-in database, and up to 2 mins for huge ones) but it will only happen for the first search.

It is currently available only on Android 2.1 or higher, maybe you have an older version.

What do you mean? The setting doesn't change anything?
