Looking for sets of stones for a club. I think were going to have 10 people. Wondering if anyone was willing to part with their set or sets or has good ideas for acquiring enough stones. We can make the boards. Can't make the stones. Looking forward to hearing from people here. |

If you have to buy them probably the cheapest choice is plastic: http://www.amazon.com/Melamine-Single-C ... roduct_top ($11.05 per set) These are sold by Yellow Mountain Imports, a well-known vendor http://www.amazon.com/WE-Games-GO-Stone ... B007PETNB6 I don't know this vendor, the stones are more expensive ($21.00) but they appear to be double convex. |

Where are you Kensai? If you're in the U.S. try contacting the AGF (American Go Foundation) or the AGA (American Go Association). They both have experience in helping people start new clubs. AGF http://agfgo.org/pages/home.php --> To their equipment page (very decent prices for basic sets) http://agfgo.org/pages/store-playing.php AGA http://www.usgo.org/ If you're in Europe try the European Go Federation. http://www.eurogofed.org/ |

Kensai wrote: We can make the boards. Can't make the stones. Of course you can. Back in ye olden days we played with whatever was available. We used M&Ms, pennies and nickels, Pente sets, those weird glass aquarium decorations, cardboard punchouts, wooden circles from craft stores. If you can make your own boards, you have the ingenuity to come up with your own (free) stones. The AGA used to sell sets of ING stones at excellent discount since the inventory was subsidized. I do not know if AGA still has such a program. Easy to find out. Five or six sets of inexpensive stones might entice any of the online dealers to offer you a substantial discount. The Dallas Go Club seems ready to give you free stuff if you'll pay the shipping. Please let us know how your club is getting along. |
