Post subject:  Learning more about a baduk board

The attached board was gifted to me by a Korean business associate who does not play baduk. He told me the board was purchased at a shop/parlour near Seochow station in Seoul. It appears to be one solid piece of wood. I would be grateful for explanation of the kanji/hanzi on the back and speculation as to the material. I do not suspect it to be kaya, that would command a cost far exceeding the usual social standards for such a gift.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Drew,

Just my guesses:

秋級 -- Autumn grade.
( Not sure what kind of grading it means, though. )

新榧子 秋級

新榧 -- maybe: shinkaya ( spruce ) ?

逸石 -- maybe name of craftsperson or brand name of the store. :)

Mmm.. 秋及 threw me off as well. I suppose the bottommost two characters are the carpenter's name? ——石

Thanks for the look.

新榧子秋級

shinkaya autumn grade,

the last two kanji supposed to be the carpenter's name/title.

i am not that familiar to Korean's equipment, but i think it should be the similar to japanese system.
