I really loved the sound that the stones make in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... V6lo#t=19s

Can anyone tell if these are single-convex or double-convex stones? With this being a Chinese commentary, I assumed the former, but I've never been able to produce such a sound as he is making (perhaps it's also a function of having the right board?.. mine is shin-kaya). Also, it doesn't sound like the regular single-convex stone sound (which usually consists of two parts, while these stones seem to make one-part sound, like the double-convex ones).

I think they are single-convex. To get a sound like that, you need the right board, and you have to place the stone so that the flat side comes into contact with the board all at the same time.

But does he put them the convex side down or the flat side down? I tried, and I can't do it the way you described, but when I flip the stone over, I can put it down "in one sound".

Flat side down. It's possible, I promise!

To accomplish it, you have to completely remove the finger supporting the stone in midair as you're placing it on the board.
