Looking at buying a go board, and need some opinions. I don't like the yellow stain of the yellow mountain board, but it does show more grain than some of the other boards. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Go-Game-Board-O ... 35c03b33e6 V.S. http://www.ymimports.com/p-854-shin-kay ... spx#rating V.S. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-1-4-Thickness ... 4168097567 (I like this one the price feels right, but there is so little grain showing on the playing surface) V.S. http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-1-3-Thickness ... 4168097721 (Same with lack of grain showing on this one). Was wondering what your opinions are on where the best deal is in value v.s. quality. Thanks. |

Well the last one is Agathis as it says in the title so although some people like it it wouldn't be top choice IMO. The top colour is a yellow wash and the darker wood can be seen on the side. The other three I'd just go with which ever you like most (other than wondering why it was coming from Canada I like your number 1 best). There may be some difference just because of the light in which the photos were taken. edit: also the Korean one is half the thickness of the Canadian one. |

I ended up buying the one that is made, and sent from Canada. I did some research on the spruce that they use, and I found an answer to why it came from Canada. The reason is they use Alaskan White Spruce to make the board. Most of the shin-kaya boards come from this area or other areas that Picea glauca grows. |

Just got the board and my stone. Feel like I am in shock it feels weird having always played online, and now having a board. Tried placing some pieces on the board and I was semi-clumsy and could barely make any noise ![]() The black stones felt a little bit lighter than the white ones (both glass) could just be me though. The board is absolutely flawless. Love it and at the same time I am dreading marking it up ![]() My fiancee told me that i should just make piece with board not being that new ever again because if I am going to play on it... it is going to be marked up ![]() Anyone else experience the excitement of a new goban? (I will have pictures up later) |

Yes, the Black stones (slate, glass) are usually slightly bigger than the W ones (shell, glass).(An exception may be the plastic weighted ING stones since they came from a factory mold and so they could make the B stones exactly the same size as the W ones; another exception may be the single convex Chinese clay stones?) |

It says they are a mixture of rock and glass. |
