I am currently looking for a travel set with glass single convex stones and a plastic or fabric board, which can be folded up to fit in one's pocket. Something like those sets that have the bowls and the board inside a box. I once had a set with 160 Black and 161 White glass stones and a blue opaque plastic board. Anyone here know where I can get such a set? Much obliged in advance for your information. |

tekesta, consider the ING 10mm stones. As a travel set or the coffee-shop, I find them fantastic for their price (~US$20). For club use, I like them much better than even the much more expensive Japanese 10mm glass stones (~US$100+). |

I have the stones you mentioned. And a board to go with them. What I seek is something with single-convex stones - whether glass or other material - and a plastic foldable playing mat, preferably one made of an opaque plastic. From my experience the translucent plastic playing mats, such as the one included in a set from ancientchess.com, don't last very long. |

Is this what you're looking for? They're always on Ebay... http://www.ebay.com/itm/GO-GAME-FULL-SI ... 3a7f29ac9f |

I once had that set, but back in 2009 I gave it away to a student to whom I was teaching Go. Such sets are lots of fun to play with and, what's more, they are very portable. However, one must set the playing mat on a hard, flat surface. I am looking for something closer to this: http://www.chinasprout.com/shop/ATG001 |

tekesta, I agree about the blue translucent thin plastic mat -- not very good experience. |

If you don't mind spending a little money, get a good chess bag, go stones of your choice, and a mat like http://www.amazon.com/Marions-Roll-Value-Vinyl-Mat/dp/B00506PQYE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1364865316&sr=8-2&keywords=vinyl+go+board. It is a pain buying the components separately. But if you want a travel board that has the feel of a full-size board, this is the way to go. |

Just saw this item on Ebay, it has a "sull-sized" silicone board the seller promises to be "wrinkle free": http://www.ebay.com/itm/We-Games-Ultimate-Travel-Go-Set-With-Full-Size-19-75-Inch-Silicone-Go-Board-Co-/271187256172?pt=Games_US&hash=item3f2405236c I have no connection with the product or the seller, I'm just passing this on as relevant to the topic... Cheers! |
