2011 Go Congress to be in Santa Barbara. Any thoughts for 2012? 2013? 2014? We need to plan further ahead, the way those earnest Europeans do... Andy |

All you kids realize that he's not asking where you want it to be held, as much as he's asking who's going to volunteer to host it in their city, right? |

Sadly, I'm on the west coast now, I think it's the east coast's turn. I was looking around at possible venues/getting an idea for prices. I know this is an odd suggestion, but has anyone considered that perhaps the congress costs would drop considerably if it wasn't held during peak vacation time? I know that this is done in order to make it easier for some folks to get time off. (I read into this: Students/Teachers/Professors/Academia) Wouldn't it be cheaper though to hold congress during Spring Break? That same constituency would still be able to show up. But hotel and venue costs could get a serious axe. |

Hotel costs may drop, but most congresses seem to find their venues on college campuses. They can therefore get bargains on housing by renting the dorms cheaply. Any time other than summer, this is no long an option. And as much as people complain about the cost, 9 nights in a hotel will be vastly more expensive than the dorm options. |

There's also the issue that many institutions Spring breaks don't overlap much. |

Well, the venue costs are almost a bigger thing to me than the hotel costs, I expect to pay a good chunk for a room, but I think the cost of registration could be brought down this way. |

Fair, though I guess the bulk of my suggestion is, if you're aiming to get a low priced congress, flexibility in the time that that congress can be held is big. Maybe find places where August/July are the off-season |

If it's in Ann Arbor, maybe the University go club can host it (http://www.umich.edu/~goclub/)... |

Andy The University of Maryland might be a good spot if you're looking for an east coast US venue. http://chapters.usgo.org/UMD/ They hosted a mid-Atlantic regional tournament in 2007. |

imabuddha wrote: shapenaji wrote: Maybe find places where August/July are the off-season Somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere then? ![]() I was actually thinking the American South/Southwest... Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona... Places where it gets hot. Most folks are going to be indoors anyway, and people visiting will be looking for indoor attractions, you might be able to haul a few sightseers in. |
