How many contacts in the AGA chapters list are wrong, misleading or obsolete?

Well, above poll was posted after trying to visit a location in the chapters list (in vain) on yesterday afternoon. (In the end I found a place.) For an organisation like AGA keeping such a list should not be too much trouble, but it is crucial to not turn the first visit to the local club into an endurance test.

I like the way the CGA manages that by adding confirmations with date and active/inactive tags.

Best Tapir.

Agreed.

The site is still showing a link for a group which had already been disbanded when I was looking for a club, and that was over five years ago. :O

You're talking about the list: Go Places In Canada

Adding the date that the club information was last updated seems like a good idea. I'll suggest it at the next meeting.

Agreed. A quick round of club/site verification on the AGA list would go a long way.

As is, you always need to try to contact someone first to verify that any club on that list still exists and meets at the time/place listed.

I guess it is a common internet disease. People did care about the latest news, but less about updating a list that isn't consulted by insiders anyway (and removing obsolete information from it).

Since the AGA staff cannot keep up with the club list updates, why not community source it. People in power often are afraid of opening up a resource like this to community updates, but the current state is less useful than the problems created by the occasional mistake that the community would make. Create an AGA member login and only allow members to update club information, that way at least AGA clubs would have a chance at being correct.

It's a good idea, but the AGA has been making noises about a member's login facility for a decade. I wouldn't count on it happening too fast.

Now the page on usgo.org shows no clubs for any states (at least off of the map and state abbreviation links).

So is it:

1) Being revised?
2) Broken?
3) 100% accurate (as in no inaccurate listings)?

or do I just not know what I'm doing?

Lol, even though it is fixed now, that is still the most telling option. But seriously, I can't even keep up with the Tiger's Mouth page updates, so I am not surprised the AGA list is inaccurate. A user based model is indeed the only good way to do this I think.

In my experience some of the clubs, chapters even, are very small. Meetings are irregular, based on e-mail exchanges between members, with locations differing meeting to meeting. Such a situation requires contacting someone who is in the know if you want to attend. Trouble is, a lot of the clubs have just one contact person and if that one person is unavailable when someone is trying to visit the club ...
