Hi.

There was once a very cute KGS-statistics tool from a guy named "joncol", very simple, very effective. It was available via senseis.xmp.net, but no more it is. Does anyone still have the program for I'd like to have it again. If so, just drop it in here in attachment or contact me via pm.

I'm wondering anyway why there are so few stat tools for KGS. It could be a real difference maker....

No, but thx for responding. That program is ok, but not so good like the one from joncol. The one from joncol was very simple and fast and did still have nice feature besies win-loss-ratio, e.g. your worst or best streak etc.

Are you talking about the java one you had to download? I think I had that one around. I'll check later.

Actually, the one I was thinking about is not the one by joncol. I think I remember seeing that one once, but don't really remember what it had.

Jseki by rosswerner(a member of these forums, although I haven't seen him around a long time ago, sadly) is still available in sourcefourge: http://jseki.sourceforge.net/KgsStatistics/

KGSAccountant by Matthew Hershberger was the one I was thinking about, but it's also unavailable, and I can't find the copy I thought I had.

@phelan: Yeah, I know the stuff you are talking about and those programs are not bad at all, but joncols program was just better. Common opinion at the time. It's really sad that this little program is lost in space 'n' time^^.

Matthew is a friend of mine--I might be able to get a copy of it from him...albeit not the one pippen is looking for.

Joncol is a friend of mine, I'll drop him a line on FB and ask him if he still has it. I'm sure he'll be happy to hear people still miss his little program. I know I loved it back in the days!

That'd be awesome. You can also ask him if he ever intends to develop it further.

So here's what joncol told me: He took the script down because it couldn't be used anymore because of the limitations that KGS has put on retrieving data. He said he has sent an email now to the admins to see if they can losen up these limitations or not.

I hope they can!

Nope.

Game database searches take up a lot of horsepower. Several people were pounding the KGS server with piles of requests 24 hours a day and making the whole thing slow to a crawl. Having a limitation on how many requests each person can make is necessary to keep the server running well.

Would it be possible to get a mirror of the database for use with tools so it wouldn't hammer the actual server DB? It could even be set up to copy/mirror infrequently to keep the strain down (maybe once daily?).

Can't the server just allow a certain numbes of requests? Couldn't KGS even built am own stat tool...one could sell it via KGS+. It's sad because there are still stat tools out there that apparently work, just not as good as joncol. Oh, well, it is what it is, I guess^^.

If memory serves, I think the KGS database just limits the rate of requests (something like 1 per user per second?). I would imagine the script would still work if you just put a wait function in it to delay all the queries.

Mef is right. You can do all the requests you want as long as they are a few seconds apart.

As for mirroring, it would be tricky just because there is private information in the database. Email of users who request that their email be private, real names from people who paid for KGS Plus, etc. Breaking the database apart to safely mirror part of it would be more work than I see myself doing here.

Eh, that ol' "privacy" thing. ;)

Heh, fair enough. Thanks for the response.
