Psychee and I are starting a four-stone handicap game. We didn't discuss the rules yet, but I'll assume we're using Japanese rules, 0.5 komi, and availability of databases and dictionaries and the like. Let me know if you'd like to change any of that Psychee.

Yeah. That's good for me. ![]()
availability of databases and dictionaries ![]() The strategy is trying to get influence. On this stage, pincers do not seem to have much difference, so i just choose two space high pincer, which I learnt on a New year's day. |

I've played a lot of games as white at around this handicap as part of the University of Waterloo Go club, and my first few moves are always just based on a slightly intangible feeling I have. Here, I hope to catch a rhythm and not take gote right off the bat. Also, I hate giving away free influence to black in handicap games, so invading at 3-3 was out of the question. |

Ok, maybe I have played too few games, I have never seen this ![]() I don't want White to enclose the corner stone, so jump out this first. |

Some people say you should play handicap games the same way you play even games. Others try to exploit that their opponent is weaker than them. I think I tend to just play the board. I start off behind, so I must play differently than an even game, but I don't consciously think "My opponent is weaker than normal, how can I exploit that?" Maybe I do think that subconsciously though. I don't know. Anyway, my move is just the natural followup on this side. This could happen next, though I haven't given it a lot of thought yet:

The first idea comes into my head is to descend. Then he may turn from the top, which I don't like. And so far, i do not read out much weakness in the connection between R14 & Q12 even if I descend and turn. So kosumi this time. |

I also considered playing an extension on the right side, but this move felt better to me. My hope for this group is that it ends up being a super-solid group so that my opponent can't target it during a subsequent fight. I might not get that, but I can aim for it. Anyway, if he plays ![]() ![]() ![]()
I'm still deciding what to do if he plays ![]()

I think the 3-10 point on the top side was better for him. Now I like the feel of my current move. If I can somehow get sente as well (which may be too much to ask), I'd like to appproach his bottom-left 4-4 point from the bottom side. But getting a solid group on top to help me later launch invasions into his moyo might be enough. |

1. need to separate two white groups/group-to-be. 2. With ![]() But technicially, i don't find where i should play. As the white marked group is in solid shape, jumping out doesn't threat her; kosumi move out gives a weird shape together with ![]() And if white finishes the local in sente, he may approach from a. That's my headache. |

By him touching my stone here, I should get an easy life on the top side. I'm not very concerned about a splitting attack on the right side, as my four stones seem strong. But, he wanted to do something to prevent being sealed in, and so this works. Projection:

I possibly can't play a lot during the weekend, but surely on Monday it's back to normal. ![]() Descend seems ok here. The question is if he spends a move to protect cut at L17, where should I play to pretect mine. |

I was also considering playing ![]()
However, ![]() So instead, I'm going for the sequence below:
Now, I will have the additional cut at 'a' to target and black 'b' doesn't feel as severe on my group. So why not play ![]() ![]() ![]() |

nobi looks soft. Don't think White can cut through, but maybe will strengthen P12 and leave some aji there. |

Hmm, he did not cut. My head's out, which is good. He has sente, aiming for D16? Pushing out and then playing J17 looks a bit weird for me. If change the order of playing, it's like black plays kosumi at 8, which is a bit slow, and then white bumps his head toward it with move 9. Is this good? I may be wrong, anyway. Now, he has sente. What am I gonna do with my lonly Q11?

His last move is solid. Now, I think my move is honte. Next, I'll probably wedge in the bottom side or approach the lower-right corner. |
