Post subject:  3k game: Questions about attacking and positional judgment

I won this game, but I don't think I played that well early on and got lucky at the end. I've made several comments in the sgf. 15 minutes main time, 5x30sec byo-yomi.

A question not in the sgf: at move 72, my gut is telling me I have a bad position (I'm very territorial). I'm think that's wrong, but I have no idea how to use the outside strength I have.

143 doesn't work. W plays F7...

Yeah, there was a sequence in there that I was just playing around with. White actually resigned at 143, but I later saw that he could cut.

At move 47, I think black should fix his defect by connecting at N15. It is harder to fight with this cut lurking behind you. You give this as a variation, where white responds with a jump to P11. You comment: "Now my stones in the UR seem useless. Or is there still a way to hassle the R11 group?" But I think this is just the kind of situation where your thick, strong wall (thanks to connection at N15) is perfect to support an attack on the white stones. For example, consider next black Q10, white Q11, black N10.

All that said, the game result was OK for black, white lived small in gote, while black captured his way out into the center.

Some comments and variations. No guarantee of correctness. :)

move 47 should have been @ Q10
then white would been in big trouble.

I like 110 at K8. Cutting as you did endangers your G8 group.

@Joaz I think you're right about what the cut does, but what's the followup to that peep?

@Bill Why do you think move 7 is premature?

To everyone--the comments have been really helpful, even if they've made me feel blind.

The top side is relatively settled, while Black has a good approach in the bottom left.

Is black 41 kosher? It feels too close and thin, for exactly the reasons that happened on the board up to 46 or so. Capping at N15 feels thicker. But no one mentioned it so maybe I'm missing something?

IMHO it is kosher. it is thin because it was sente.
if black gets gote then white will jump and you have an invasion that you tenukied

It's a strong leaning attack technique. White ends up with the same amount of territory that he already had (no real gain), black ends up with a couple of stones there - in sente. Black doesn't care about the cutting points, it's already slightly harder for white to break out than before, and he can use this fact to attack the invasion stone more strongly.
