When an opponent tries to escape like at 84, you can play a "slapping tesuji" sometimes by attaching next to it (M13 in this case). You'd be able to at least capture his three stones there, which might have saved you the headache caused when they wormed their way out. http://senseis.xmp.net/?SlappingTesuji |

A few comments on the opening: ![]() Move 14: L-03 just makes a little territory. The hane at E-10 not only makes the White stone on D-10 look bad, it threatens to attack with B-02. Move 22: The invasion is premature. The attack with D-13 is better. Move 24: Running is not so great. Better to attach at R-04 and then answer R-03 with the two step hane at S-03. It can get complicated, but the defender (Black) wants to have a lot of options, including throwing some stones away. Move 28: S-03 is a key point, solidifying Black while threatening White's base. Pretty much double sente now. White 29: Excellent play! Moves 30 and 32: Not so good, as they induce White to strengthen his own stones and weaken Black's. Black 32 is particularly bad. Better to seek sabaki with an attachment at S-08 and leave the push through (Black 30) as a threat. ---- Focus: Don't be envious of your opponent's territory. In this game you invaded too early and then weakened your own stones. |
