6: A tad optmistic, pincering oneself on the third move. O17 looks better. 20: No need to hane, for you can't kill him. Just play solidly at C12. If he wants to march along the second rank, getting a mere one point per move, you don't mind at all. You just match him on the third rank, getting moves worth 2-3 points per move. There is no profit in making a weakness for yourself. 22: This forces his cutting stone to become stronger. Before the 22/23 exchange, his cutting stone had two liberties. After you force with 22 and he defends with 23, his cutting stone has three liberties. You just forced him to make his cutting stone 50% stronger. B11 is better. 30: F14 34: E11. He defends, you play D11. He defends, then you capture at G13. You get the influence instead of him. ...it is getting late here...maybe more later |

Yet another game, yet another review. The most fundamental error you made in this game was to not respond directly when he touched your stones. Responding is urgent and cannot be ignored - the shift in power depending on who gets to play the next move in such an area is too great. I've pointed out a few other mistakes as well, but overall, congratulations on your win ![]() Edit: My sequence doesn't even work - maybe there isn't a way for black to save his useless heavy clump of stones ![]() |

thank you for your review once again....its hard not to post a lot of games knowing what a great resource this is ...:p its amazing how much things can seem like common sense when you're going through a review, but are totally missed during actual play :/ |

Something I think the others haven't covered: When you are invaded on the 3-3 like this, consider carefully where you want the wall to go. In this case, since you are going to end in gote with this variation (there might be others ending in sente, don't remember now), black gets the next move. If he had extended along the top with his corner stone, your wall might not be worth much. If you make the wall towards the other side, however, he will be forced to play in the middle of your wall and your other corner stone if he wants to nullify the wall, which isn't as comfortable. If this is wrong, I hope someone else corrects me, but to me, picking the right direction in the 3-3 invasion joseki is very important. I've won quite a few games where people expected me to take one and I took the other. Edit: Just realized I gave you no guideline as to which side to pick. Always pick the side where you think you can profit the most. This can either be using the wall to form a moyo, or using the wall to attack some stones, depends on the situation. |
