Hello again. Look like I found my go-to agent for learning how to play White in handi games :)

Today I was playing against "nownownow", ranked 11k on KGS. (I think this player is clearly SDK, though.) White played some weird moves and I tried my best to keep up. The fight starting at Black 196 resulted in the capture of a large group of stones. Then all of a sudden, at move 218 White resigns - even though at the time it appeared, to me, White was ahead by at least 20 pts. Even if I were to win the ko in the upper left corner and kill that White group, White would still win the game in my estimation. Below is the game record.

White was easily winning the game, yes. As you suggested, white seems to be a typical sandbagger and resigned simply to keep his rank artificially low (weak).

I was right! My opponent must be an SDK - and a Rui Naiwei wannabe :grumpy: It would be nice to punish such sandbaggers, but then again I do not yet have the playing strength and experience to be able to do so. It's as if my opponent tricked me into making bad shapes. A pretty good indication of my still deficient reading skills. More middle game and endgame studies for me!

By my count you made 109 moves in 357 seconds for an average of 3.3 seconds per move. No one had to trick you into anything. :blackeye:

Even if I were to have waited an average of 60 seconds per move, I'd probably still have lost. My opponent was much stronger than 11k. (Free teaching game :twisted:) I don't like to think for several minutes per move, even though I could get better results if I waited at least 2 minutes before picking up a stone. Which I why I spend time going through problems and playing games. At least this way I can play out of my subconscious. So I'll be practicing more.

I think White is not so strong.
You could have easily won the game, if you had made :b70: at N19.

I only looked through the first 75 moves.

But within that, two bad habits become clear:
1) You play reflexive defensive moves.
2) You play too fast.

This guy is not that strong. You can kick his butt if you just manage your time a bit better. You had, by my count, TEN opportunities to kill his group up top. But you spent only a few seconds per move, and missed them all.

At least half of those opportunities consist of the simple throw-in at N19. If you take away nothing else from this review, at least learn that one simple eye-destroying technique.

Otherwise, your play looks good for a DDK. When you take the time to look for good moves, you can find them. Work on using your time to find good moves. You will be SDK overnight. And this guy will then look forward to playing you so that he can learn something from you. :mrgreen:

Something's wrong with how Joaz's SGF is displaying, so here's a working copy:

Edit: Now it is for me. Weird glitch.

No one's asking you to spend 2 minutes per move - that would work out to a game longer than 3 hours even if your opponent responded instantly! However, 3.3 seconds per move is ridiculous and I simply cannot believe you can be putting serious thought into your games at that speed. Try slowing down a bit, especially during difficult positions. Just taking a several seconds to attempt to read a position will greatly improve what you describe as your deficient reading skills.

Ideally, you spend a minute or however long analysing the situation, decide on a line of play, and then play out the remaining moves in that line more quickly because you already have read them out and decided they were good. Sanity checks before each move are always recommended, though :)
