So, I am still playing 9x9 almost exclusively, and learning a lot from each game. As an change of pace, to see how the tactics translated, I started a 13x13 game. I won, but incredibly narrowly and only after a counting near-debacle. ![]() at ![]() ![]() I think ![]() The exchanges on the right side, I think I was trying too hard to create chaos and win little fights, and not hard enough to think about eye space. When the fighting went against me (I think ![]() Around ![]() In the end it worked out, but what a squeaker. I think ![]() ![]() ![]() Any advice I can get at this point is gold dust! |

If on the other hand, B does not descend to B13 immediately, then later, W has a chance to hane at B13 himself. In contrast, in the game ![]() ![]() and W still has to go back to fix the cut at D12. So W gets gote either way, but in the game W forces ![]() points for B immediately) and W has lost the chance to hane at B13 in the future. More importantly in this case, with ![]() B has a chance to live in the corner (I've updated the SGF). Very important: connecting directly at D12 is not always the best move. In some situations, it is not. So don't connect at D12 without thinking -- we must always evaluate both locally and globally to find the best move. |
