Post subject:  KGS 4K in need of advice

Hi everyone!

I have been lurking this forum for quite a while and finally decided to register to be able to get some feedback. This game ended with a pretty even result and I am very interested in finding areas of improvement for myself. I do have thoughts on my own of where I went terribly wrong but I would like to hear your opinions as well :)
Any help is very much appreciated!

Im also only 4k, so ...

:w10: I dont like that joseki cause you strenghten black here, but dont rly get the right side, better jıst the dıagonal q15 or maybe q 14 and if he answers you can tenuki
:w16: is considered bad play (if black answers) ive been told many times, the reason i don't really understand, but my guess:
if he answers:
first : it's a trade : his group becomes super strong you make your moyo bigger, who gets more out of it:
- bigger moyo ; more points
- stronger group: he can attack more easily , ignore your plays top with less costs, as he can better invade in the upper hemisphere
second: its a strategic testiment: you bind yourself to develop that moyo and become less flexible, while the rest of the board is still empty, and i think that is the main point. maybe it would be a good move later on. well he doesnt answer, but maybe doesnt need to , since he is established top with 19 and just can sacrifice his p17 stones
:w20: you even bind yourself even more to the right, , but you still can' protect that moyo with even two moves. you more or less force him to invade there.

:b21: He takes the left side, but i thinkk there would have been better plays there. I'd chosen c12 and after you defend the corner D9 or D8, if you then take the black 33 id ry to go out sente with a crawl on the 4th line, then invade rigth side. , if You defend right then, ill play in the middle for two purposes : endanger the white moyo, build a moyo myself

:b25: he takes a goteish sequence, good for you
:w34: and :w36: ive played something on the right as your top left is somewhat miai, but i sure dont know the right move (i think this is where you see the difference with a dan and a kyu most). I like s12 or o10 or p10, s12: secures territory hard, but leaves the bottom moyo weak and doesnt use the siye, o 10: secures both sides and enlargens moyo. I think it to be as the standard move, as if he invades deep you get something out if it by letting him live small. In this case i dont like it, cause of his big strength left, what you get isnt worth that much. p 10 secures both sides mediocre, and lets his reduction plays at p12 or o 12 (??) come out mor easily.
p 10 i like best cause it makes more use of the moyo. Its risky cause it says i can kill an invasion, but i think as whit i have to take that risk now

:b37: finally somebody does something about the right. I find this move as ambiguuos, It looks like a reduction to me, so ive treted it as one at :w38: s12, but i dont know about the fight that follows after :b39: at r13. Your answer to try to kill it comes too late. First he s quite out and second hes strong around

:w40: what is this peep for ? only makes sense if youre already in defesive mmode for your top half, but right thereafter you cap.

maybe ill post sth more , but now gotta go

I'm not terribly different in rank either, but I feel that the previous comment on :w40: is spot on. On the right, black got eyes locally AND centre access, which is more than he deserves with his reduction turned invasion, which is what that turned into. I'm inclined to think that white should play R14 instead, to block eyespace on the side and stabilize white's cut and group, and fight from there with the lean against the top. I'm not certain this is the best play, though. Maybe white should have leaned first, when black originally played the reducing move, and then started fighting?

I beg to differ about :w40:. I think the peep is a good move, making black heavier. White should follow up with :w42: at R10, denying black an easy base while solidifying a good chunk of territory. Black is left with a heavy line of stones.

( @Joe: that was some great advice. Are you sure that you're only 4K?? )

@OP: My comments are mostly about move 70 and the moves immediately following.

PS: Welcome to L19. :salute:

Thank you all for your input! I was aware of that I really butchered the right side once he played there, I didn't really question the build up of it though which I probably should. I expected a jump out after W38 and I guess pretty much felt like I had to punish black for jumping in. Anyway, thanks again!
