Probably the EGF referee workshop will be held on the EGC second week's Wednesday (August 3) afternoon + evening and Thursday (August 4) evening. Successful participants will get the EGF Certified Referee certificate. The rules commission is investigating whether it qualifies also for applying as referee to the WMSG 2011 in Manchester. |

oren wrote: Has there been a request for WMSG referees? 1) Apparently a provisional request by the IGF has reached the BGA. 2) I have requested it a few times during the last years. It is still unclear to us how the Go events of the WMSG will be organized, except that obviously the IGF board cannot do it alone. From Europeans do everything via Asians do everything to the world wide go community does everything, all is possible. Organization will be similar to an EGC. Such a big event does not organize itself by sticking one's head into the sand. We must be prepared if Europe is asked to do most of the organization. Referee education is just a small part of that. |

There's little information at all if there will be future WMSG. http://senseis.xmp.net/?WMSG As you said, it's a big event and there's no information anywhere online if someone is organizing it. |

I think I may say so much that in a few months more information will be available. Currently IMSA, IGF and EGF Committee do or do not inform you. |

Is it not possible to organise an referee workshop online or so , i would like to do it but won't be able to come to the EGC. Also is there a decision on the go- and tournament rules? |

Currently the rules commission does not want to hold online workshops because we want to be sure that people getting certificates are real while participating. Of course, you can use various forums to pose questions and hope for answers. Which decision on go and tournament rules are you asking for? |

Can you give some more details of the content of the workshop? |

Post subject: | Re: EGF Referee Workshop 2011 |
Basically we have had the same contents every time: * Refereeing * Tournament Systems + Pairing Programs * Tournament Rules * Rules of Play This time there might be a change within these topics though: Greater emphasis on WMSG-related rules. |

willemien, if you mean EGF tournaments: - tournament rules are EGF General Tournament Rules and EGF Tournament System Rules, some specific tournaments have particular tournament rules (some fixed, some drafts) - rules of play: you find the options in the General Tournament Rules - pairing programs: see appendix of Tournament System Rules Now which decisions might you mean? |

Just out of curiosity: Are there any prerequisites for taking part in such a workshop? Does one need to have a certain rank? |

Ahh oops we were talking about different tournaments. You were talking about the EGC while I was talking about the WMSG 2012 |

daal, there are no requirements, except that getting a certificate requires active participation for the entire workshop. Participants are strongly encouraged to prepare themselves though by reading the rules and tournament rules. willemien, WMSG 2012: Nothing is fixed yet but opinions of influential persons were expressed: EGF Rules Commission + Chen Zuyuan: WMSG Rules, else BGA Rules. Martin Stiassny: Verbal European-Japanese Rules. BGA, IGF: No opinion yet? Tournament systems and tournament rules are not being prepared yet. |

Hi Robert, would you be so kind and post a link concerning exact time and place of the workshop when you know something's coming up on the net? How about accomodations during EGC, entrance fee questions etc? I will be on holiday in Germany during July/August, but don't think that I will travel without a more detailed plan.. |

It can happen that the exact schedule will be decided only during the EGC. I do not know if I can announce that on the web then. Surely it will be announced on the wall at the EGC venue. Also note that the IGF might come up with a schedule of their own with possibly an extra workshop for IGF referees, unless the IGF decides to fuse both workshops. |
