I'm playing a bit with the idea of having a annual or once half a year ASR tournament. I'm wondering how you guys would feel about that.

The general idea is to have a small entry fee so we can have a good prizepool and the tournament (depending on the size of course) would probably last a few months to finish.

I know this is totally vague but i'd like some input on what you think about having something like this next to the regular league and if i should pursue such an idea

seems voting is going well so far and a lot of yesses:)

i want to stress that if i don't have an entry fee for the tournament i will most likely not have a prizepool unless i get (as usual) sponsors. For those willing to pay a bit for playing in a tournament, please give me an estimate on what you believe is a right amount to pay.

Also should i give titles for tournament winners? should be cool right?:D

My participation would depend on only one thing : schedule.

If matches are within a fixed schedule like the KGS+ tournaments, I can't participate. If it is free, to arrange between the players, that would be doable, but then how do you decide a result if the players don't play a match ? How would you know who made more efforts to be available ?

i will probably do something along the lines of the L19 tournament but it depends on how many players sign up. It divides rounds into weeks. like for instance you have 2 weeks to set a date post that on the forum and play the game. I'm not sure if i can use the script for such an occasion but as i said its all stil vague.

if 2 don't play then we can still advance because the one supposing to play the winner of them just has a free advance.

i'm debating 2 things at the moment in the structure
1. using the system of L19, seeding stronger players more forward in the tournament.
2. making groups which fight it of before going into elimination rounds.

ok well i guess i have waited long enough and it seems ppl only want to vote on the poll, which is ok:P It seems most want a free tournament and only once a year.

I will elaborate a bit on details of the tournament

The tournament will be held in februari or march and can last for about 3/4 months depending on how high you get in the tournament.

The structure of the tournament is still not yet certain however there will be no set dates for games, only intervals of about 2 weeks per round. If a person doesnt show or can play within the set interval one of the 2 persons needs to resign from the game so the other can progress. if neither show the next player who would play against that matchup has a bye for that round and progresses without playing.

Settings will be 19x19 japanese rules 6,5 komi and nigiri. I think a tournament should have a longer timesetting and im thinking about 45 minutes 5x1 minute byo yomi and have semi finals and finals at 1 hour 5x1 minutes.

Prizepool: Depends on players who donate, if you want to donate please contact ASR admins.
