ASR tournament february 2011 Welcome to the First ever ASR tournament! Yes, a real tournament, with knockouts and such and in the end a real champion! This tournament is FREE FOR EVERYONE! You don't need to be part of the ASR league to sign up! Rules Boardsize: 19 x 19 Handicaps: No handicap. Time Settings: 40 minutes main time, + 5X30 seconds byo yomi. The (semi)finals will be played with 1 hour and 5x60 seconds byo yomi. Ruleset: Japanese rules. Komi: 6,5 points. Color: nigiri Type: Free. Players can agree on rated if they want to. Room: Games must be played in Advanced Study Room (under Lessons) on KGS. Costs: This tournament is FREE. Tournament set-up The idea in principle is that we have a double-elimination tournament (so one loss puts you in the losers bracket, another puts you out of the tournament) that is open to all, with stronger players entering in later rounds. Grouping is done by rank, so each group has approximately the same rank. The current format, if we can get 48 entrants (96 just adds 1 extra round), is as follows: Round 1 -> Group 1 play Group 2, winners progress, losers form the first 8 in the loser's bracket Round 2 -> Winners play Group 3, winners progress, losers form the second 8 in the loser's bracket Round 3a -> Winners play Group 4, winners progress, losers drop into the loser's bracket, to play...: Round 3b -> The winners of the first round in the loser's bracket between the losers in the first two rounds. Losers in the loser's bracket are eliminated Round 4a -> Winners play Group 5, winners progress, losers drop in the loser's bracket Round 4b -> 2nd Loser's bracket round, winners stay in, losers are eliminated Round 5a -> Winners play Group 6, winners progress to the final 8, losers drop in the loser's bracket Round 5b -> 3nd Loser's bracket round, winners stay in, losers are eliminated Round 5c -> 16 player's in the loser's bracket, 8 get eliminated Round 6a -> Final 8 for the winner's bracket, 4 go through, 4 drop Round 6b -> Loser's bracket - 8 winners from 5c play, 4 get eliminated Round 6c -> Loser's bracket - 4 winners from 6b play the 4 losers from 6a, 4 get eliminated Round 7a -> Final 4 for the winner's bracket, 2 go through, 2 drop Round 7b -> Loser's bracket - 4 winners from 6c play, 2 get eliminated Round 7c -> Loser's bracket - 2 winners from 7b play the 2 losers from 7a, 2 get eliminated Round 8a -> Final 2 for the winner's bracket, 1 goes through to the grand final, 1 drops Round 8b -> Loser's bracket - 2 winners from 7c play, 1 gets eliminated Round 8c -> Loser's bracket - winner from 8b plays loser from 8a, winner progresses to the grand final at a 1-0 disadvantage Round 9 -> First to 2 wins between the winner of 8a and the winner of 8c, with the winner of 8a starting with 1 win at 1-0. This way everyone technically has a chance of winning the whole tournament, but no-one should end up playing people far out of their ability range (unless they do really really well!) It's possible to play a grand total of 14 games (win round 1, lose round 2, win 3b, 4b, 5b, 5c, 6b, 6c, 7b, 7c, 8b, 8c, and then the first game in round 9), but it's pretty unlikely! Every round will have a half month interval in which you can play your game and report back the results. If the game isnt played both players will be removed from the tournament unless one of the players resigns from the tournament first. Resigning from the tournament is done via posting resignation on the forum. Since the ASR tournament is FREE there is no prizepool. We are totally dependant on players that would like to sponsor us. Please contact an ASR admin if you like to donate. Prizes: a player cannot win more then 2 prizes - adoreme offers 3 kyus that finish highest in the tournament a free review. - rayheart offers the highest ending 5 kyu or weaker in the tournament a teaching game - MrZNF offers the highest ending 1d or weaker in the tournament a teaching game! Tournament Director: stalkor, topazg Registration You can register for the tournament here. If you like to register you can make a post in this thread and we will keep a list of entrants on the top of this page. If you register please include the following information: - KGS username - Rank. If you are a high dan player please include a proof of rank so we can verify. This is to prevent players signing up with ridiculous ranks that is not appropiate for their strength. Can you provide a bit more information about when it's taking place and how long each round takes. I have some exams in February. |
