Hi,

I'm looking for a good chess forum, but while there are more chess forums than go forums I cannot find something as good as this one.

Do you have any suggestions for me?

The highest quality chess forum is probably chesspub.com, though it is mostly focused on openings.

The forum at chess.com is definitely the biggest English language forum I am aware of. If you happen to speak German, there is schachfeld.de - it is very similar to Life in 19x19.

But let me tell you: The user experience you will have is going to be miles worse than at 19x19. The folks hanging out at chess forums can be, well, a little idiosyncratic...

Let me reiterate that we are all perfectly normal and well-adjusted. Nothing to see here. Move along...

I honestly mean that. I've been lurking here for quite a while before eventually registering. The dealings seem way more civilized on here.

Sometimes things get heated here, too - everyone starts posting massive, gigantic, enormous walls of text that make it impossible to follow the argument. Usually about something minor, too.

I've noticed something like the stuff I'm used from the chess world in the Professionals section, especially when it comes to Japanese players. Imagine this, but much more intense, by multiple factors...

The thing is, in chess, there are really strong bots, and this leads to a phenomenon I like to call engine slaves. If you say, well, usually this and that should be done in general in this position, you might very well be drowned in posts like computer says no

Thank you for all the tips. I checked things out and now I have some cool database tools and over 5 million chess games to play with :)
