It's that time again. The hosting and domain fees are due soon. We need about 100 USD per year to keep L19 running. If a score of people contribute just the cost of a cup of coffee, we'll be fine. ( I chipped in the first one, so it's down to 95 USD )

If you want to contribute, please use paypal:
Recipient's name: L Nineteen
Recipient's e-mail: 5ab(AT)fifthavenuebooks(DOT)com

Thanks,
JB

Is there a snailmail address to which I can send money?

We have 6 donations so far, most larger than 5 USD. We're about halfway to meeting the minimum costs. Thanks to all of you.

BTW, if we get more than the required amount, we could upgrade to 'unlimited' bandwidth. Which I guess just means 'a lot more'. Presumably it would be faster.
Or we could get email addresses like admin@lifein19x19.com or donations@lifein19x19.com.
Or we could have a modest cash prize for winning the L19 tournament.
Or we could buy pizza and beer for the admins.

Any suggestions/opinions?

Or we could keep it for next year. I'd rather have a beer for the admins, but this is an option too, if you want to make a poll.

Beer for admins. I spend enough time here that ya'all deserve it, but also, if ya'all GET the beer, I might get away with more. =D

It looks like we came in about 24 USD over the minimum. Thanks, everybody.

2012 EDIT: Please note that this was the 2011 bills.

Could you please keep open the acceptance so we can continue to get funds for tournies / events / future upkeep? I barely missed this last year and it seems its about to happen again...

Hmmm...that's a good idea. I set it up in a temporary manner, but we should be able to make it permanent.

[admin]

It is time for paying the 2012 bills. We need $108.72 for hosting expenses.

We had a $34.57 leftover from last year's donations, which we were going to spend on pizza and beer for the admins. But we could not reach an agreement on that. ( I do NOT drink light beer, and anchovies belong on cat food, not pizzas ) So we still have the leftovers.

$108.72 - $34.57 leaves us in need of $74.15 US dollars. The paypal donation info is at the top of this thread.

Thanks
-JB

Pizza and beer -- it's not just for breakfast, anymore. ;)

Wow, that was fast.

THANK YOU, WE ARE COVERED

We are over 300 USD.

One person contributed the entire amount, and that wasn't even the largest donation. We are covered for 2012, and 2013, and part of 2014. Or, we may be able to get enough pizzas so that all of the admins have their choice of anchovies or no anchovies.

If anyone wants a refund, let me know.

Dang it, this always seems to get taken care of before I even see the thread...

Post subject:  Re: Paying the L19 bills

Id like to see L19 grow. In the thread, Joaz makes a brainstorming of several ideas.

Right now L19 is the largest english forum, and it doesnt have good coverage (lots of people dont know about it) and i dont know how much more active it can get. Of course survival is often the first goal and i think all those that contribute into running this can also aim higher than that.

Now you have gotten a few extra bucks, and even though its not much it can help you get some energy and resources into new ideas. Improvement, over survival, is very motivating and i can tell you first hand that crowd-sourcing works in the go community. Id love to know that 2 months from now, L19 wouldnt be the same thing.

I have no idea what it takes to run a forum, so i dont think i can give an informed advice, but if you plan on things and share them, theres a good chance you get the resources you need to do them.

Regards, and congratulations!

Not long ago I had an idea how to grow the l19 user base: Give free teaching games on dgs/ogs/kgs/... and post the review on L19. I'm currently testing it, only the games are not finished yet.
