I've been to my local go club, and i've been surprised by the number of plater which take a fan to play go.

Online playing schedule: Every tenth February 29th from 20:00-20:01 (if time permits)
I always considered it somewhat affected.

I recently got one as a gift, and I won't consider playing with it until I get to 1-dan. I'd feel I was dishonoring the pro that signed it. :-?

No. I have never played go in conditions where I would have needed one, and I doubt I ever will.

Yes. I always play with my fan at my side. I also like to decorate the playing halls I visit with tasteful wall scrolls from only the very best anime.

I sometimes use a fan during tournaments or serious online games. I am a fast player and holding my fan rather stones/the mouse makes me play slower.

no, I never use a fan.

I have one that I got from a Japanese fellow that I helped out.
I keep it with the Goban (real one with legs) that I also never use to play on. ;-)
Both the Fan and Goban are more for decoration than actual use.

I like the empty triangle commic :D

I do own a fan, but I've never played a game with it. That said, I can understand those who do. I tend to concentrate better if I can fritter away some nervous energy. Usually this means I rummage through the stone bowl, or tumble stones in my hand making a racket. Both bad habits. Quietly rolling a closed fan, or gently wafting a breeze would be much less intrusive. Maybe I'll start. So I vote [x] Plan to.

I always thought people just did it to annoy the opponent.

It works.

I do have a couple of fans, even one signed by Chang Hao 9p, but I don't use them in tournaments. However, when I hold one while I play online, I tend to notice that I take my games more seriously. The power of the placebo effect.

My club meets at the local pub. I can imagine the looks of the regular patrons if I brought a fan.

I have some fans but I don't play with them. One of these days, I'll have to show pics of them on my blog :)

I have several, and one signed by Yoda (a souvenir fan, not personally signed by him, I'm sure)

But I don't use them when playing go, I only use them at work because they still run the heater when its only a little cool outside.

No pro signatures here but I do have one signed by Yumi Hotta. Only used it during the 2008 EGC in Leksand because it was so hot.
