Hello !

I've finished playing that game a few minutes ago. It was an even game with me taking Black. Any ideas, opinions and suggestions are welcome.

Overall, I'm very pleased by this game : I had a difficult opening but as the game unfolded, I started gaining back my ground. I lost by 3.5 but I don't feel too shameful - for once !

17: Just answering the peep seems fine. It feels like you're rushing to kill his stones and save yours, but there's no rush - white is weak on both sides, so your running group can't be weak itself 'cos it's automatically attacking one of them.

19: You just let white connect!? Answer the peep! There's still no rush, and this time...you're losing everything you could have gained in the area.

29: Rush rush rush rush rush...why ignore white's 'seal me in please' move - play N4!

33: Since white seems to want to let you get away with it...play N4 now. Do you think white can actually cut here?

51: Why is this cut scary? If black play O12 instead, it isn't obvious where white can go - and if white cuts, O12 is in the perfect spot to settle N15 pleasantly whilst killing Q10.
55: Rush rush rush rush ignore white's move play in white's territory hope white doesn't kill all my disconnected stones hope giving white all this good shape isn't bad for me

63: Awfully thin, white can probably easily cut at C7 now. B3 is a safer shape.

79: This seems rather slow, since this stone isn't exactly important. Maybe you can play L9 or something to force white to fix the cut for you (or die).

83: Rush rush rush rush rush forget white S13 is abad for black.

95: Yes, this ia big point.

103: This seems okay. It's not like white can cut or even threaten to in a useful way.

Summary: Rush less! You can't be everywhere at once. And when you have miai of groups to attack, you don't even have to be.

Thank you two for the reviews ! I'll review them a bit more.

I do have one more specific question concerning Black 53. I thought I needed to do something about the bottom side ASAP, but White 54 seemed the perfect move. At that moment, I tried B55, not wanting to go with the usual attach-and-extend joseki which would just go along White's plan. So, simply put : what would be best the best plan after W54 ?

If 54 is the perfect move, 53 is wrong. Though I assume you've already worked that out.

It's also the case that white is fairly solid, and perhaps you need to overplay. I'm not sure.

Overall, I think you are a little to worried about white's plan. You can reply with the normal hane, then might (for instance) jump into the corner to give white a choice between territory loss and giving black extra territory.

Just jumping in is a terrible idea because you just made white strong, I think it's even worse than it would have been to jump into white's territory in the first place (which would probably be a bad idea).

Remember, white can get some territory too. You focused entirely on removing white's territory, rather than the formation that you could make yourself. I'm not saying that your formation would be sufficient, but it isn't obvious that it wouldn't be.
