This is the first game I've played in a long time. Let me know what you think. I'm pretty sure I was behind the whole game or at least that's what it felt like

Long, should-have-gone-to-sleep-long-ago ramble:

On 5-3 joseki:
Approaching 5-3 stones high from a 4-4 is a normal idea. Your direction is good, and it's harder for white to aim for complications.

On :b5: :
I think you suspected rightly that white had something funny planned if you played one of the normal approaches. However, I think :b5: would have been better positioned making a sanrensei (at Q10) if not approaching. Normally when developing 4-4s, around adjacent star points is the way to go.

Hoshi-Knight's move enclosures tend to be played for a specific function. Generally speaking:

$$ {AR K4 G4}
$$ {AR D5 D8}[/go]

Primarily, it blocks a good approach from direction 'a'.
Secondarily, it increases the value of direction 'b'.
And finally 'c', the 3-3 invasion becomes a ko, so it gains points.

On specific moves:

23: Could be at B15, too. B15 threatens to capture C15, in case black ever needs eyeshape here, while threatening B17 followup. White saving C15 would be heavy.

33: Obviously white gained from the top left (as Ed covered) but I thought the sacrifice sequence to solidly connect up around white was pretty neat.

55: I'm not sure of the corner status considering N3 and R8. I would play K3 or J3 here, and if white invaded, try and start a splitting attack between the invading stone(s) and P8 group.

After 75: You need to work a little more on your technique with forcing moves (don't we all). K5 seems like it would have been good. 81 could just be N6* directly (white needs to be careful answering!). If you had just played K5 and N6 followed by a move out to the center, your reduction would be looking pretty good.

*Or O7 or P7 to play that cut!

PS: Random cooking question: Other than price, is there a material difference between "rice bran" "grape seed" and say, canola oil? (all are high smoke point, I think).
